UAE Introduces Rest Stations For Delivery Drivers

The UAE Ministry of Human Resources and Emiratisation (MoHRE) recently announced the introduction of 356 well-equipped rest stations for delivery drivers across the nation. This significant initiative aligns with the previously announced midday break policy, which prohibits individuals working in the sun from engaging in their duties during the peak temperatures between 12.30 pm and 3 pm. “The initiative ensures a safe workplace and protects employees from heat-relate risks during summer,” the announcement read.

The new rest areas were implemented in coordination with private-sector delivery companies with the support of several government entities. MoHRE turned to Twitter to express its excitement, saying, “We are pleased to announce the allocation of 356 fully-equipped rest stations for delivery drivers across the UAE. These rest stations offer essential services to protect drivers from the scorching sun and heat exhaustion, especially during summer. Our commitment to the safety of delivery workers in the summer is reflected in this initiative, and implemented in coordination with the relevant private sector delivery companies with the support of several government entities.”

Earlier this month, food delivery company Talabat too launched the region’s first solar-powered rest areas for delivery drivers in Abu Dhabi as part of the ‘Summer Together’ initiative. Air-conditioned mobile buses were also introduced which will be available across key rider locations in the country’s capital. The ‘smart boxes’ will operate round the clock and offers noise-free, seated and air-conditioned areas with water dispensers and mobile recharge stations.
