Scotland Strengthens Presence In the UAE

Scotland showcased its latest innovations and solutions for energy transition, decarbonisation, and offshore wind and wave energy at ADIPEC in Abu Dhabi recently. The country had a strong presence at the world’s largest gathering for the energy industry, highlighting its strengths in delivering energy transition innovations with 24 companies at the Scotland Pavilion, led by Scottish Development International (SDI), Scotland’s global trade and investment agency and international arm of Scottish Enterprise. In the lead-up to COP28, to be hosted in the UAE later this year, Scottish companies led the way in identifying ways to help the world reach net zero.

Riley Smith, General Manager UAE at Xodus, a global energy consultancy and part of the Scottish delegation at ADIPEC, said, “We've been having a lot of success in decarbonisation in the Middle East and are encouraged by the fact that the region has been so interested and is keen to learn from what we've been doing in the North Sea in the UK. It has been great to be at ADIPEC and furthering those conversations.”

Another Scottish company in the UAE for ADIPEC is Mocean Energy, a wave energy technology developer. Ian Crossland, Commercial Director, for Mocean Energy, said, “The team is delighted to be back at ADIPEC once again. It’s a great opportunity to showcase our technology, which we presented last year. We were asked to come back, which is a great compliment. We are building on our experience to make this year’s ADIPEC an even greater success.”

The Scottish Government Cabinet Secretary for Economy and Energy, Neil Gray, will be in the UAE later this month to officially announce Scotland’s plans for COP28.
