Mitie has been awarded a new contract worth £62 million by pensions and savings firm Phoenix Group to carry out integrated facilities management services throughout its UK estate. Under the five-year deal, which marks the first time Phoenix has sourced facilities management from a sole supplier, Mitie will render a range of specialist services, including its ‘Connected Workspace’ and decarbonisation works. It will also carry out planned and reactive maintenance, cleaning, security, catering, waste management, landscaping, decarbonisation and additional project work.
The contract allows Mitie to expand its existing relationship with Phoenix Group – it already provides cleaning at two sites in Edinburgh. This adds six locations in five cities nationwide, including Edinburgh, London, Hitchin, Wythall, and Telford.
Mitie’s sustainability credentials will play a key role in this contract in support of Phoenix Group’s decarbonisation commitment. Focusing on reducing carbon emissions, Mitie will appoint a designated Plan Zero Energy manager responsible for identifying energy-saving options and cutting energy use as part of a carbon performance guarantee.
It will also sustain Phoenix Group’s investment in its employees through its ‘Connected Workspace’ to create greater levels of workplace connectivity and collaboration. This includes implementing Mitie’s technologies and applications to enhance the workplace experience, optimise service efficiency, and enable flexible working across the group’s portfolio. Mitie will also inaugurate a cultural change programme that aligns with the Phoenix Group’s equality, diversity and inclusion policies.
Simon Venn, managing director of Technical Services, Mitie, said, “We look forward to continuing our partnership, bringing our market-leading technology and exceptional people to enhance the workplace experience across Phoenix Group’s sites and help make its net zero ambitions a reality.” Jackie Cowper, Phoenix Group’s premises and resilience director, added, “This collaboration will see a one-team approach to enhancing our colleague experience, delivering our sustainability ambition whilst ensuring flexibility in an ever-changing environment.”
