L&T Secures Major Contracts In The Middle East

Larsen & Toubro’s (L&T) Power Transmission & Distribution Business has been securing major infrastructure contracts in UAE, Kuwait, Qatar, and KSA. In the UAE, the business has been entrusted with establishing a 220kV gas insulated substation along with corresponding transmission lines. This significant undertaking comes from a well-established energy industry service provider.

Moreover, the company has received orders to develop two novel 132kV substations from a public services infrastructure entity in Dubai. Additionally, another order has been confirmed for the construction of a 220kV overhead transmission line within the same region.

Across the border in Kuwait, the business has secured a comprehensive order for the turnkey construction of four new 132kV substations located within the Al Sabah Medical District. This endeavour encompasses the complete suite of Control, Protection, Automation, and Communication systems, along with the requisite Civil & Mechanical components.

In addition to these achievements, the company has also secured additional orders related to on-going projects in Qatar and Saudi Arabia.

Contracts awarded

In June 2023, L&T has awarded a major solar tracker contract to Spain-headquartered PVH for the world’s largest green hydrogen project in NEOM, Saudi Arabia. Under the contract, PVH will provide solar trackers for NGHC’s 2.97-gigawatt peak (GWp) solar PV plant, manufactured at its Jeddah facility. Owned by NEOM Green Hydrogen Company (NGHC), the plant will be fully powered by renewable energy.

L&T serves as the EPC contractor for the power elements package of the green hydrogen project, including a 2.2 GWac PV solar plant, a 1.65 GW wind generation balance plant, and a 400 MWh battery energy storage system (BESS).

Contracts have already been awarded for gas-insulated substations (GIS), wind turbines, and BESS, which are integral to the power elements package. However, the contract for the solar PV panels is yet to be awarded.
